I know that Volcano National Park is closed now due to activity. No one knows the future, but I want to know if there is any possibility if we can arrange a lava viewing tour day or night. My family loves to hike and we are all able bodied. We are doing the NCL cruise which docks in Hilo 7/3/18 8AM - 6PM and in Kona 7AM - 5:30PM. I'm fine with missing the overnight on the ship. Can you please let me know if there is any way a lava viewing tour can work?

It depends on how/where the lava is running. We stayed in Volcano and wound up meeting in Keeau then driving down to Kalapana because it made for a shorter hike tho the lava. …

But I've been watching his FB videos and it sounds like he's going to start meeting in the park again because the flow is closer to the end of Chain of Craters road. Either way, I'd say stay in Volcano. Even if you have tho drive to meet him, at 3:30 in the morning, there's not a lot of traffic.
Hi! Can anyone tell me how far the meeting point for this tour is from Kilauea Lodge or Volcano House? It seems some tours start in Hilo and we'd rather not backtrack. Thanks!

They don't announce the meeting location until the day before the tour, but we met in Kea'au too. We had an Airbnb in Kea'au the night before so it was a short drive in the morning.
