Just saw your question on Trip Advisor on 8/1/2019. We’ve been to the Zoo twice. We used the free shuttle from the Anchorage log cabin visitor center at “F” street and West 4th Ave or 546 W. 4th Ave. The zoo is not near a public transit bus. It is SE of the Visitor center. If you have a car and can drive, on a MAP search on your computer or smart phone, check out the location. We enjoyed the zoo in 2013, and went back on another free day on our own in Anchorage in 2015 and will go again. Another location we want to visit is the Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center near Portage which is along the Turnagain Arm toward Seward Alaska. A beautiful ride by auto. There are bus excursions you can also look up. At Seward is the SeaLife Center and you can also take an excursion by boat to the Kenai National Park, which is more like a Aquatic type area to sea glaciers, whales, sea Lions, Puffins, otters and other animals.
