(We will not have a high-clearance vehicle/ 4x4.) What is the route we would take with a regular car, and how far can we go with that type of car? Finally, how long of a drive is it from Moab to either the Needles Visitor Center or the farthest point in Needles that we can go with a regular rental car?

Much of the info that you're looking for is available on Google Map. Just map Moab to Canyonlands Needles District Visitor Center. You can easily drive to the Visitor Center in a regular rental car, but it's a long trip. With all that you can do in Moab, you might want to skip the Needles District (most of the attraction there is backcountry stuff like jeeps and camping) If this is your first time in Moab you need a minimum of 2 days in Arches, 1 day for Canyonlands (north) & Dead Horse St Pk, and another day to drive the river road, which is beautiful. Good food at Pasta Jay's and Spoke. Have fun!
