I was very impressed with the hike even though it was abit challenging with the humidity the day I went. The view from the top was absolutely wonderful and the history behind was very informative.Sheldon M的完整评论

Beautiful hike. Ascent less than a mile in total but pretty strenuous. Pay off in amazing views. Make sure to book in advance - you can't buy tickets at the gate without reserving them first (a …Bob J的完整评论

It depends on your level of fitness/stability on uneven surfaces. The beginning of the hike is a very easy to walk trail but there are rockier parts as you move along. The stairs are tougher to climb but there are handrails and you can take rests on the way. There were people half your ages having to rest along the trail!
We are visiting in Late August with a 18mth old and 11,and 8 year old boys. We feel the hike is not suitable for us, but would like to see this site. Is there any point to visiting if not doing the hike up. Is there nice park facilities or other nice areas of interest to spend time at here. Or do we give this area a miss? Thank you

The hike is a moderately difficult hike (in my opinion), though if you are experienced hikers, you may find it easy. Your 8 and 11 year old boys will be fine, but you'd have to carry your 18-month old, which could be challenging. There is an open field of grass inside the crater, but at $5 per vehicle, probably not worth the visit, unless you plan to hike up to the top bunker for the views. FYI, you could try researching the Makapuu Lighthouse trail, or perhaps Round Top Drive and Puu Ualakaa State Park, which also provide cool views. Aloha!
Has anyone done this with young children, aged 4. I don't think the walking is a problem for him but thinking about the safety issues. Thanks!

You can always turn around before the top if not appropriate for your child. The path would feel like an exploration and is interesting, even without going all the way to the summit. There is no particular danger as long as the child isn't absolutely out-of-control, but this would be true for any climber. Safety would be a concern only if you move off the path and purposefully move into restricted areas.
What is the best way to get from the Hilton Village to the beginning of the trail without a car? Don't mind a bit of a walk before the trail. Thanks
