You can begin in a couple locations. I usually like to start at the entrance near the bridge on Bridge Street (across from the Berkshire Cooperative Market).You can go to their web site (gb river walk org - omit the spaces as I can't put a link in my answer) which has a brochure you can view/download to show the path and its starting/ending locations. It is a short path; and, no you can't buy food on the actual path but you don't need to. You could grab a sandwich at the coop market or just bring a small snack and eat lunch or dinner after your stroll. It is a very easy walking path and basic closed toed shoes are fine. I've seem many people walk in flip flops too.
