Hi! How tough is the 3 hour glacier walk? What is the elevation? And how steep is the path? And is it continuous incline? Thanks in advance.

It wasn’t that tough. The entire walk is three miles (not sure what that is in kilometers). The elevation was close to 7,000 feet. Although the first half is uphill with a gradual grade, the pace is as fast as the slowest person. I don’t hike regularly and was able to do the glacier walk without a problem. In our group we had eight people which included four kids. The youngest was seven and all the kids did great. We all slept really good that night lol! If you have knee problems or any other medical conditions that prevent you from a basic hike then I would suggest skipping it, but otherwise it’s not difficult.
I would like to do the Ice Walk Tour in late August with my husband and 7,8 and 10 year old children. Is the three hour tour too strenuous for kids those ages? They are in good shape but have not done a similar hike before. Thank you!

The kids can totally do the hike. The youngest in our travel group was seven and my son is ten. Both the kids did fine. Our friends’ seven year only whined when we walked uphill on a trail to the glacier. She quickly got over that the moment she saw the glacier and never complained after that. We took several breaks to rest and learn about the glacier. GREAT experience for the kids!!!

Hi. I can only go by what it would have been like for my kids at that age and they would have loved it. The pace is really not intense and our guide was really considerate to the participants getting what they wanted. The three hours flew by. The distance involved is much shorter than a typical 3 hour hike. Not sure if the weather will be much different in late August but the tours would only take place if it was safe. Might be worth contacting the operators to check they would have all the clothing and equipment (spikes etc) for the age of your kids. Btw, we also did visits to Athabasca falls and Sunwapta on the way to the glacier and on the way back. Well worth it!

The 6 hour tour is about 5 miles and does not operate on Tues or Wed and it only at 9.30am. You can check availability on the ice walks website. Hi Smiley, I'd suggest that you bring along a few different layers: an underlayer like a shirt or turtle neck, a sweater or lightly insulated jacket, plus a wind or rain layer, depending on the day. Gloves and toques (Canadian knitted hats) are recommended, but we can offer you those. Expect cool breezes and sometimes light rain. (You might even get some sun!) I hope this helps. Cheers
