I will be going to Kurobe Gorge on 23 November. Will i need my thick winter jacket (like Canada Goose) or can i survive with windbreaker + jacket + t-shirt + themal inner? What about wearing sneakers (like normal Nikes)?

It was raining when we went in October. We were comfortable on the hike at the terminal station with our jacket. I was wearing my hiking shoes but the hike is not demanding except that it can be slippery if you hike to the left side at the top. We were glad that we brought our woollen caps n extra cashmere pullover as it was cold during the one or so jouney back in the open train. We went there in the closed train which was comfortable but less photo opportunities
I will be going to Kurobe Gorge first week of November 2019. I understand there are ryokans at the various stations but I cannot seem to find them. I understand the good ones are by word of mouth? Can someone please provide me with the contacts for the Ryokans?

I am planning on going end of March/beginning of April (not this year so I have time to change my plans). I understand that the railway isn't open which really sucks as I really wanted to do that but would rather see Cherry Blossoms so I am keeping my dates, anyways, was wondering if it was still worth it going up to this Ryokan/area, or should I use my time somewhere else? Was originally using this as a stop to get to Kanazawa from Tokyo... what are peoples suggestions?

Unazuki Onsen and Kurobe Gorge are deep into the mountain region and need to take local trains from Shinkansen Kurobe Station to reach there. If you are planning to go there just for the onsen you will still miss the best part of sightseeing in Kurobe Gorge since it's not opened till first weekend of May. But if you are on your way to Kanazawa I would suggest that you visit Japan Sea coastal cities along your travel routes to Kanazawa. Assuming that you are going on the way to Kanazawa by Hokuriku Shinkansen trains then I would suggest that you stopover in Ikuji. It is a fishing town by Coastal Japan Sea and a part of Kurobe; there are quite a few sightseeing sites to explore. Many spring water sources within the town and spring water which comes from Japan's Northern Alps is pure enough to drink. Also the sunset by Japan Sea is one of the 100 best sunsets in Japan. Other suggestion is Toyama, the main metropolitan in Toyama region.
I understand that the Kurobe line closes and does not open again until Mid April / May. Does anyone know whether this is true as we were planning to book the train early April and can find no way of checking.

It opened on Saturday 5/5 and closed on 11/30 for the 2018 season. We visited in the Mid-May, 2018. For 2019 I assume it will be first opened around the first weekend of May, by the end part of Japanese' Golden Week. According to JR website, the first holiday Golden Week falls on Monday, April 29, with busy travel expected through Mondays, May 6.
My husband and I just came back from Japan. We skipped Kurobe because we were told just before we left that our arrival on 11/23 would be too late for the fall colors. Has anyone done the Kurobe gorge during the last week of November? Please report on what the foilage looked like as well as other views from the train in late fall. Were all the leaves dead and dropped on the ground? That's what my husband expected, so we changed our plans and skipped Toyama and Kurobe gorge and went to Nagoya instead. Photos would be nice, too.
