It’s all relatively close if you are happy to travel and it mostly depends on the neighbourhood you want to be in. From Manly you’d mainly be using water taxis or ferries to get to Sydney. But it depends on what you want to do and see. I like walking so stayed in Paddington. From there it was 15 minute walk to the city. The ferry from Manly to Sydney takes about 40 mins to get to Sydney harbour so you’d need to factor that in. The ferry from anywhere towards Sydney at sunset is a beauty. Google is very good for giving accurate distances if that helps?

The of Sydney is only 30 mins by ferry or 15 mins by fast ferry. Several great walks are around. The tourism office is at the wharf. Also have a beer/meal at the 4 Pines Brewery across from the wharf and or the 16’ Skiff Club.
