It depends on what road you are talking about in the park. For the road coming into the park from Moab/UT highway 211, it is paved, and accessible by all vehicles. The elephant hill access road into the elephant hill trailhead (main trailhead in the park) is a maintained dirt road usually accessible by low-Clearence 2 wheel-drive vehicles. After the trailhead, the road turns into a very difficult 4 wheel-drive trail, which requires high-Clearence 4 wheel-drive vehicles to manage. This is a hard and fast rule. This road is not for the faint of heart, and usually requires (at the minimum) a Jeep, or other modified off-road vehicle. The Salt Creek road is comparable to Elephant hill, high clearence four wheel drive. Expect to encounter deep sand, moving water, mud, sinkholes, and a VERY faint road (If any road at all). The lavender and Davis canyon roads are hit clearence 4 wheel drive due to deep sand, running water, and washouts in the road. Colorado overlook road is also high clearence 4 wheel drive, however the first few miles may be done by a high clearence 2 wheel drive vehicle, then parked to hike the rest of the very rough high clearence four wheel drive road to the overlook. Keep in mind, ATVs and UTVs are not allowed within the park, no matter if they are licensed, or not. All road conditions are subject to change, rapidly, due to adverse weather conditions
