斯普利特，意大利语称斯帕拉托，坐落于地中海畔、亚得里亚海东岸的克罗地亚南部港市。市内人口约有18万，是达尔马提亚地区最大都市，也是克罗地亚第二大城。同时，斯普利特亦是区内最古老的城市之一，若以古罗马戴克里先宫始建造期起计算，该市已有1700年历史。 该城的名字来源于多刺金雀花的希腊名，该城在当时称为Aspálathos 或Spálathos 。该城为罗马所据后，其拉丁名为Spalatum或Aspalatum，中世纪则在当地的达尔马提亚语居民中变为Aspalathum、Spalathum、Spalatrum或Spalatro。
