My friend and I are planning to do this amazing trek in early Nov. I'm looking for tips on how people managed to carry food and water supply for 4 days!! Also, ways to economise on the weight, size and items to carry on the trek. For example, what turned out to be your minimal absolute essential items for the trek? Many thanks for your help in advance!

My friend and I are going to the Circuit during the Easter break. We plan to camp on the camping ground. Long distance hiking is not the first time for me but for my friend. Is this journey really difficult or it is ok if you have the sprit to keep you going? Also is there any drinking water in each hut and camping ground?

Hi Ivy - it's not *really* difficult but it is challenging, especially the day when you cross the volcanoes (day two if you're walking from Whakapapa to Waihohonu, or day three if you are walking in the other direction; assuming you do the four-day route). You do need to make sure you have good boots or sturdy shoes, and clothes for every weather (warm, wet, cold) as the weather changes very quickly up there. Make sure you book your campsites on the DOC Great Walks website (do it asap) as they do get booked up, there's limited spaces and you will get turned away if you come without a booking and there's no space. Yes, there is drinking water and long-drop toilets at every camping ground, and gas stoves until 30 April. Enjoy.
