Established on Oct. 1, 2010, the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) is the nation’s first federal health care center. It is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense (DoD), integrating all medical care into a single, fully-integrated federal health care center with a single combined VA and Navy mission. Located in North Chicago, Illinois, the arrangement incorporates facilities and services from the North Chicago VA Medical Center (NCVAMC) and the Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes (NHCGL). The integration was accomplished in three phases and named in honor of the Apollo 13 astronaut, retired U.S. Naval officer and Illinois resident, Captain James A Lovell.
