Aaron Rene Garza, 42, of Portland, faces a likely charge of second-degree murder in the shooting, which happened around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday near Northeast Gertz Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement.

The shooting occurred Aug. 1 outside the Lamond Recreation Center. Police said it appeared the victim was armed and may have returned fire at the assailant.

St. Louis police said the 38-year-old victim was shot shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday. He was on the porch of a home.
