We bought one for our own house and I began to research it's meaning and history. St. Brigid's cross symbolises the beginning of Spring. In Ireland the official beginning of Spring is February 1st.

This is probably the best known St Brigid's Day tradition. A St Brigid’s Cross has a distinctive design made by weaving rushes into a patterned square surrounded by four arms tied at the end.
