Quark - Wikipedia
A quark (/ k w ɔːr k, k w ɑːr k /) is a type of elementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter. Quarks combine to form composite particles called hadrons, the most stable of which are protons and neutrons, the components of atomic nuclei. [1] All commonly observable matter is composed of up quarks, down quarks and electrons.
11.4: Quarks - Physics LibreTexts
In the 1960s, particle physicists began to realize that hadrons are not elementary particles but are made of particles called quarks. (The name ‘quark’ was coined by the physicist Murray Gell-Mann, from a phrase in the James Joyce novel Finnegans Wake.)
Quarks: What are they? | Space
2022年11月1日 · Quarks are the ultimate building blocks of visible matter in the universe. If we could zoom in on an atom in your body, we would see that it consists of electrons swarming in orbits around a...

2025年1月18日 · quark, any member of a group of elementary subatomic particles that interact by means of the strong force and are believed to be among the fundamental constituents of matter.
Quarks - HyperPhysics
Quarks and Leptons are the building blocks which build up matter, i.e., they are seen as the "elementary particles". In the present standard model, there are six "flavors" of quarks. They can successfully account for all known mesons and baryons (over 200).
Quark - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A quark [1] is an elementary particle which makes up hadrons, the most stable of which are protons and neutrons. Atoms are made of protons, neutrons and electrons.
What is Quark? - Definition, Meaning, Types, Model, Example
We can define quark as: A quark is a type of elementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter. Protons consist of two up quarks and one down quark, whereas a neutron is made up of two down quarks and one up quark. Quarks cannot …
DOE Explains...Quarks and Gluons | Department of Energy
There are six different kinds of quarks with a wide range of masses. They are named up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. Quarks are the only elementary particles to experience all the known forces of nature and to have a fractional electric charge.
Quark - Definition, Meaning, & Flavors - Science Facts
2023年2月17日 · Quarks are a fundamental building block (size ~10 −18 m) of matter found in an atom. The other one is leptons. They give an account of all mesons and baryons. The most familiar baryons are the protons and neutrons, which consist of quarks. Quarks are not made of anything. They join to form composite particles called hadrons.
Subatomic particle - Quarks, Antiquarks, Gluons | Britannica
2025年1月20日 · The baryons and mesons are complex subatomic particles built from more-elementary objects, the quarks. Six types of quark, together with their corresponding antiquarks, are necessary to account for all the known hadrons. The six varieties, or “ flavours,” of quark have acquired the names up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom.
