A double-pole switch is used where you need to isolate a circuit for safety reasons during maintenance of the circuit. For example, current UK code requires a two-pole isolator for fire-alarm control-boxes and for high-power fixed-wiring (non-plugged) appliances such as isolation switches next to electric cookers and electric showers.

The lower hot black goes to the common on a double switch or one pole on each of the two switches. The upper black goes to the other side of the first switch and the upper red goes to the other side of the second switch. Effectively, these switches share an "in" but have separate "outs".

I just bought a Panasonic FV-20NLF1 inline bath exhaust fan that I planned to used to exhaust 2 different bathrooms. I want each bathroom light switch to control the fan, so when the lighting turns on in either bathroom, the fan will go on. If both light switches are off, the fan will go off. If one light is on the fan will stay on.

2024年5月9日 · Poles are the number of independent channels the switch has - single-pole, double-pole, triple-pole, or n -pole. You need double-pole but triple would be nice as I consider it elegant to also switch neutral, it being a conductor. Throw is the number of output options. "Single-throw" means it can only connect Common to output 1, or not.
