2014年9月22日 · ICON is the first space mission to simultaneously retrieve all of the properties of the system that both influence and result from the dynamical and chemical coupling of the atmosphere and ionosphere. ICON achieves this through an innovative measurement technique that combines remote optical imaging and in situ measurements of the plasma.

This product contains the density and velocity of the plasma measured at the location of the ICON satellite. It is retrieved from the two velocity measurements by the IVM instrument, a ram velocity from the RPA and a cross-track velocity from the IDM.
ICON’s three airglow instruments view airglow from miles away to measure the temperature, velocity, and composition of Earth’s atmospheric gases. ICON’s fourth instrument type provides direct measurements of the ionosphere around
