Our meerkats have moved upstairs into an exhibit twice as large as their original display! This exhibit replicates the animals’ native African-desert habitat and offers the meerkats many new opportunities for climbing, digging and exploring. Plus, three viewing “bubbles” give guests the chance to pop up right among the meerkats.

Welcome to the Louisville Zoo’s Meerkat Live Cam, made possible by the Irvin F. and Alice S. Etscorn Foundation. Watch the mob explore their exhibit, discover and investigate enrichment items and interact with each other in a unique hierarchical system.

Meerkats can dig very quickly to find insects (the biggest part of their diet), spiders, snails, rodents, birds, eggs, lizards, and scorpions. They have a home territory of about 4 square miles (10 square kilometers) or more and hunt in a different section each day, returning to the first area after about a week.

Our busy mob has plenty of room to dig endless tunnels; the exhibit features plenty of dirt as well as logs and rocks for climbing and scampering, bushes to hide under, and two artificial termite mounds that are often filled with tasty meerkat treats!

2023年1月8日 · The exhibit for meerkat and yellow mongoose was built in the center of the animal park, next to the restaurant and the playground. The exhibit with these attractive animal species upgrades the area and hides the view from the main path toward the indoor playground.

The meerkats adopted sentinel positions on stones, heaps of earth and on a black locust trunk. From here, the wardens detect crows and magpies that are after the young. They can also see the cheetah in the nearby enclosure. One can hear the different alarm calls of the meerkats for aerial and ground predators.
