(8) Where an exhaust air intake for the principal exhaust fan is located in the kitchen, it shall be located in the ceiling or on the wall within 300 mm of the ceiling.

It is common practice in the residential building industry to install a principal exhaust fan in a bathroom on the second floor. Two switches are installed; one at the bathroom fan location, the other usually in the dining room (a central location).
