2013年2月9日 · I just had another customer show me a filter that looked like Swiss cheese after being exposed to a UV light. The UV light and the ozone will react with any plastic materials such as filters, pans, wire, mastic, flex duct, etc. I would like to know how widespread this problem is and what people are doing about it.

2021年1月13日 · Many years ago i went on a service call and they had 2 furnaces side by side. One had the simple UV light above the coil and the other furnace didn't have one. The one with the UV light had a clear drain hose that looked brand new. the one without the light had the typical green slime and junk in the hose. That sold me. They do help.

2009年8月5日 · when mounting a uv light make sure that if you mount on the return that the filter is able to handle uv light. if you mount above the coil make sure that drain pan is able to handle uv light otherwise it will turn it in to jelly. My company installs the secondwind uv lights (the owner stands by uv light over any accessory for a hvac system).

2024年1月3日 · would put light on incoming side coil, that side is dirtier and more likely for gunk to grow. can paint the plastic pan to protect from uv degradation. since the lights are so low output, can only treat a stationary surface (not air during operation) by running all the time to get enough exposure time to kill whatever may be growing.

2014年1月6日 · The UV light will work well when placed just bellow the apex of the coil and run 24/7 to keep the coil clean. To install one in the air stream is useless. There needs to be contact time in order for it to break down the DNA of the organic matter.

2024年8月7日 · - Avoid UV lights that are just a plain bulb or two sticking into the duct. Their effective kill range is only an inch or so from the bulb, plus the light will destroy any plastic it shines on. If you really have to have UV then use a unit like the Sanuvox or Apco that has a turbulator or reflector around the bulb to improve the effectiveness.

2015年3月5日 · Not a fan of UV lights because of production of ozone. For the best indoor air quality, a large merv 11 air filter, a fresh air change in 4-5 hours when occupied, and maintain <55%RH throughout the home.

2012年5月29日 · Found the Trane UV light kit (locally). Expensive, but was able to purchase from a Trane HVAC installer for 3-4 hundred less than buying from Trane parts warehouse. I feel it was worth the premium to get the design benefits of a kit specifically for the Hyperion. Installation was straight forward.
