It's more direct, rewarding, and playful to drive a RWD car. I actually prefer FWD over AWD. The added weight, complexity, and maintenance for AWD doesn't justify the marginal improvement in fun. Most AWD cars are heavily front-biased just like most FWD cars, so the braking and corner entry behavior is still undesirable.

Off the line, a lot of AWD cars are faster 0-30, 0-60, even 1/4 mile, since they have better traction with 4 drive wheels than 2, but once you are under way, typically 2 wheel drive cars start to pull and rolling resistance is lower as well as weight. So, in situations where your front tires are spinning a lot (heavy snow), it's basically the same as AWD, since it works really well and I've yet to get stuck.
