It's more direct, rewarding, and playful to drive a RWD car. I actually prefer FWD over AWD. The added weight, complexity, and maintenance for AWD doesn't justify the marginal improvement in fun. Most AWD cars are heavily front-biased just like most FWD cars, so the braking and corner entry behavior is still undesirable.

Off the line, a lot of AWD cars are faster 0-30, 0-60, even 1/4 mile, since they have better traction with 4 drive wheels than 2, but once you are under way, typically 2 wheel drive cars start to pull and rolling resistance is lower as well as weight. I use Porsche as an example, comparing the 911 Carrera/C4, or C2S/C4S, or Turbo S/GT2RS.

However, my wife's car has one of the adaptive systems where the car is entirely RWD for most times and then shifts power forward only when needed, or off-road.

2021年11月3日 · It's reactive AWD, so it's basically 99% FWD, then when the system detects slip up front, it sends up to 50% to the back. So, in situations where your front tires are spinning a lot (heavy snow), it's basically the same as AWD, since it works really well and I've yet to get stuck. Very few AWD cars torque vector using the differentials to transfer torque around. The Lancer Evolution, Focus RS, and GT-R come to mind. But the base level commuter grade cars? No.
