Our short biking route will take you around a small southwestern section of Pelee Island. With a total length of approximately 9km or 5.6mi, we estimate that this route would take the average person anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to cycle. This does not include time spent at each point of interest and is a minimum estimate.

Pelee Island provides an excellent route to cycle or walk, and it is also the first island to be selected as part of the Waterfront Trail. The main road follows close to the Lake Erie shoreline all around the island, through farmland, vineyards and beaches.

There are two additional unsigned cycling loops on the island now included on the map: the 19km North Bay Loop and the 8.7km Fish Point Loop. Do not miss the scenic hikes on the north and south of the island.

Look southwest and see Middle Island, a nature reserve of Point Pelee National Park, and the very southernmost part of Canada; the international border is just to the south. After a stretch of open road one comes to Stewart Road. To maximize your cycling experience and see Fish Point, turn south and follow the road around.

New in 2024, The Pelee Island Green Bike Tour was developed by Ron Tiessen in an effort to exhibit and explore many of the unique features of Pelee Island in an informative and educational manner. Endorsed by the Pelee Island Heritage Centre, the Green Bike Tour is currently the only authentic guided tour on Pelee Island.

The hiking and cycling trails offers a windy, rolling, smooth gravel pathway that travels through swamp and dryland forest, savannah and even along Pelee’s famous sandy beaches. There are water stations, benches, bike racks all along the trail as well as bike pumps and tool centres at both the park Visitor Centre and the Marsh Boardwalk area.
