The first Superfreighters, with a longer - 42 ft 3 in (12.88 m) - hold than the earlier Mark 31, were delivered to Silver City Airways in spring 1953 and were used on cross-channel services to Europe. One example was converted to a 60-seat all-passenger "Super Wayfarer". [1]

Built to meet Air Ministry specification C.26/31 for an aircraft capable of carrying 24 fully armed troops, 10 stretcher cases as an air ambulance or equivalent mixed freight, the high seven-spar cantilever winged fixed-undercarriage Bombay used lessons learned from Bristol's unique twin engined Bagshot fighter ( J7765 ) of 1927.

The Bristol Superfreighter was designed in 1952 as a development of the Bristol Freighter to meet the requirements of the car ferry services, carrying cars and their passengers across the English Channel.

2023年3月30日 · When Airfix reissued their Bristol Super Freighter kit some years ago it included Sabena decals for G-APAV if memory serves me correctly. I have Derek king's book on the Bristol 170 published by Air Britain to hand and see that MK32 C/N 13256 Alpha Uniform was transferred to BUAF on the First of January 1963.

Although not built for the purpose, Bristol’s Freighter Mk21 and 31 proved ideal, allowing two cars and their occupants to be taken on the short hop. The later, longnosed Mk32 Superfreighter was developed specifically to meet Silver City’s needs.

Now, before the Carvair came along, the Bristol Freighter and then the Bristol Superfreighter were the mainstay of the vehicle carrying fleet over the English Channel. 2007年10月21日 · Bristol Superfreighter Mk 32 Eastleigh Airport –Silver City Airways. Ok they were powered by 2000hp Hercules radials not Bristol Centaurus but nevertheless pretty impressive to a 15 year old plane spotter, especially on start up- lots of black smoke. Didn’t worry too much about the environment in the early 60s!

With fully operating loading doors and loading ramps, this model excites the imagination. No less than 107 parts make up this realistic model, and the finished plane, with Silver City transfers and "14th July" nameplate, has a wing span of 18 inches.
