Clark Air Base is a Philippine Air Force base in Luzon, located 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Angeles City, and about 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Metro Manila.

2023年3月20日 · MANILA – The United States and the Philippines started rehabilitating the runway of the Basa Air Base in Pampanga on the island of Luzon, one of the five original Philippine military sites identified to host rotating American troops and their equipment under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

The history of Clark Air Base in Pampanga dates back to the early 20th century when it was settled by Filipino military forces. The United States established a presence at the turn of the century. 1941: Clark Field in Angeles, Pampanga looking westward.

It covered an area of about 12 square miles (30 square km) and was located 48 miles (77 km) north of Manila near the foothills of the Cabusilan Mountains. It was first established as a U.S. military camp for the 5th Cavalry.

Clark Air Base has 2 10,000+ foot long runways and at least 8 helipads that it shares with Diosdado Macapagal International Airport. It is located about 15 miles northeast of Basa Air Base and about 45 miles north of metro Manila. (Coordinates: 15o11'09.6 N, 120o33'37.1 E)

Clark gets its name from Maj. Harold M. Clark, of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Born in Minnesota and raised in Manila, he was the first American to fly in Hawaii. Clark died on May 2, 1919 in a seaplane crash in Panama and is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.

2017年6月12日 · On June 10, 1991, Col. Jeffrey R. Grime, commander of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Clark Air Force Base, began carrying out the order to evacuate Clark Air Base, Philippines. U.S. Naval Base Subic Bay eventually followed suit. It was worried that a harmless looking nearby volcano, Mount Pinatubo, would erupt.

Clark Air Base was arguably the most urbanized military facility in history, and was the largest American base overseas. At its peak around 1990, it had a permanent population of 15,000.
