The International Fencing Federation (FIE - Fédération Internationale d'Escrime) is the world governing body for the sport of fencing, part of the Olympic Games since 1896. The FIE currently has 151 affiliated memb er federations representing the sport on all five continents. The headquarters of the FIE are Lausanne, Switzerland.

On 14 October 2019, the International Olympic Committee will invite all eligible NOCs to submit their requests for Tripartite Commission Invitation Places. The deadline for NOCs to submit their requests is 15 January 2020. In Fencing, no Tripartite Commission Invitation Places will be directly allocated as part of the athletes’ quota.
