Named in honor of Martin C. Jensen (b. 1959) of Reno, Nevada, USA, who first found the material. He is a scanning electron-microprobe specialist at the Mackay School of Mines and mineral collector. He has studied and written papers/articles on many mines in the western United States, especially Utah and Nevada.

Nevadaite was discovered in February 1992 by Martin C. Jensen and was approved by the International Mineralogical Association in 2002. [3] It is also found in a copper mine in Kyrgyzstan.
The mineral is named for Mr Joseph F. Leising of Reno, Nevada, U.S.A. He helped one of us (M.C.J.) collect the suite of secondary minerals from the Centennial Eureka mine dumps. Juabite, Cu5(Te6+O4)2(As5+O4)2·3H2O, a New Mineral Species …
The mineral is translucent (masses) to transparent (crystals), emerald-green, with a pale green streak, and an uneven to subconchoidal fracture. Juabite is vitreous to adamantine (almost gemmy) on cleavage faces, brittle, and nonfluorescent; H (Mohs) 3–4; D (calc.) 4.59 g/cm 3 for the idealised formula.
