The present 4x8 layout is a practice ground for the future bigger dream railroad. I also am building it to demonstrate what can be done in On30 with readily available hobby shop supplies by the average hobbyist at a beginner's level. The Peco track isn't really 1/4" scale track, it is 7mm scale-16.5mm gauge industrial tramway track.

2014年3月13日 · the layout is basically a shelf layout, a little over 10´6" long and 19" wide. There is a leg sticking out, making it into a T-shaped layout. That leg will have to be removed, when the layout is not in operation. On the right side is an extension which will be the staging. This is also removable, as it in front of the windows of this room.

2006年10月26日 · A 4x8 is clearly not the optimal use of room space, but its popularity can't be denied. I think either a change of table size/arrangement or scale would be a welcome change. I was still left wanting to see more of the On30 New Mexico Central project layout. Somehow I never did get a good sense of how it all went together as a whole.

Speaking of a long time ago. I read about this method back in the mid-1960's on building a project layout in Boy's Life magazine. I'm sure the idea goes back even earlier. 2011年2月14日 · I am planning an On30 layout, designed to be portable to take to shows, but still give me enough switching opportunities to keep things interesting at home. Unfortunately, to get what I think I want in the available space will require 4% grades. My trains will be limited to 3 cars and a caboose, and will be powered by 4-4-0's or a shay.

2006年6月5日 · The ties are the right width, only 3 inches too close on center and the same length as the 7mm/16.5 tram track sold as On30 by Peco. It is more accurate as narrow gauge track than as HO standard gauge track. The HO couplers are the correct size and the appearance can be improved. An On30 layout can be built on a 4x8 easily.
