Government House is a National Historic Site and Provincial Heritage Property. Our mission is to provide visitors an accessible historic place to preserve, promote and celebrate Saskatchewan's living heritage.

Government House is located at 4607 Dewdney Ave, just three blocks West of Lewvan Drive. Buses can drop their groups off at the sidewalk entrance in the Visitor Parking lot. Please make use of the Visitor Parking lot at Connaught Street.

Government House boasts engaging exhibits, an interpretive centre, an art gallery, and a feature exhibit space. Government House property also includes 8.5 acres of beautiful Edwardian Gardens and a lush conservatory to soak in the sunshine.

Government House was built in 1891 and served as the official residence and office of the Lieutenant (pronounced “left-tenant”) Governor until 1945. The Lieutenant Governor is the Crown’s representative for Saskatchewan.

Held in the beautiful Government House Ballroom, the teas began in the Conservatory in 1991. A typical tea includes three sandwiches, a fresh scone and preserves, and a dessert, all served with an endless pot of specially blended tea.

The present Government House was constructed between 1889-91 immediately east of the old Government House built in 1883. Its architectural design was in fact a composite of several different styles popular during the late-Victorian period.

Government House has become a cherished part of the architectural heritage of the provincial capital and the country. The additions and rehabilitations have received numerous awards of the years. It is a fascinating example of the grand designs prevalent during the late Victorian era.
