(or your choice of b/c.. but fondant looks best!) indent a line going down the side of the book on the top. put a thin line of fondant along the bopttom edges of the cake, and line "pages" into the sides not covered with fondant.

You will need 2 of pieces and place them side by side then I would cover it with fondant to make it look more realistic. run a fork along the sides to create the look of pages.
