2019年5月31日 · Lower unit is coming off no matter what. :) Replacing the tube is not that hard once the L/U is off. Depends on the specific motor of course. Many older motors would see the tube come out with the L/U rather than remaining with the motor. I would not try to patch it. Don't want it "letting go" at an inopportune time which can strand you or worse...

Is it true that old Merc models, or at least older Merc 110 models, have much smaller vent/fill holes? What is used to propel gear lube into the small fill hole?

2016年11月15日 · The fill machine screw is on the port (tiller handle side) on the lower front of the "bullet" portion of the lower unit. The smaller vent machine screw is on the opposite side, but higher up, a little below the anti-ventilation plate underside.

Mercury Outboard Lowerunit Tips
Mercury makes a neat little fill-pump which fits into the quart sized bottles of gear lube. This pump works well to fill the lowerunit from the bottom up. Remove the vent and drain screws and let the unit fully drain. We like to pump a little clean lube into the top vent hole to flush out the housing.

I am assuming you mean the vent in the lower unit and mean gear oil?Take the bottom drain screw loose on the lower unit. Drain about a teaspoon of gear oil out then tighten the plug.
