Essentially polymerization is a process that the oil goes through (naturally) as it turns from a liquid to a solid. When you apply Tried & True, heat, light and polishing complete the process, leaving a clear, thin, flexible finish.

I followed these directions to finish a cherry bookcase. 1st coat was a thin layer of shellac to control blotching. 2nd coat was straight Tried & True danish oil. 3rd and 4th coats were a mixture of 1/3 "Indian" spar varnish (expensive) + 2/3 Tried and True varnish. I waited at least 2 days between very very thin coats.

What I do is place the can in the top half of an old double boiler I got at an auction sale, and heat it up till the thick viscous stuff is clear, it is not real hot just warm but it goes on much better and the coats are thin.

2005年1月26日 · 2. Most of the time I use Danish Oil or the Original Wood Finish. Even when I use the latter, the first coat is Danish. I usually add a little of the Danish Oil to the Original Finish when I use it. I have chatted with the maker of T&T and as I recall he suggested these techniques. Since I am pleased with the results, I continue to use them.

2005年5月22日 · Tried and True, like other "oils" (tung, linseed, lemon etc.) is an "in the wood" as opposed to a surface finish like varnish or lacquer. The thing that seperates T&T from other "Danish Oils" is the fact it does not have any metallic driers like Watco etc. so it is going to take much longer to dry.

2002年6月19日 · When I first started using Tried & True I had the same problem. I decided to be more patient and apply very thin coats. The results are worth the wait I have customers who insist on this finish after seeing samples I have in the shop. It really is a handsome finish IMHO.
