I got a call from the customer saying this past summer (eastern NC) a few times his charged dropped over half and the plug got hot. It only happened in the summer and only "3 or 4 times." He leaves the UMC plugged into the house 24/7.

For my setup I use the 14-50 adapter with the Tesla mobile always plugged into it. I never unplug the mobile charger from the 14-50 plug except for very rare occasions (once or twice a year).

You can plug an HPWC into a 14-50 outlet if you set the HPWC to 40A. There's some debate over whether this is to code, but the consensus seems to be that it's safe, at least.

2021年8月11日 · Not in NJ so cannot comment on $. But even if using Nema 14-50 outlet have electrician use #6 wire. This way if in the future and you want Wall Charger or other third party charger that goes to 48 Amps you have the wiring. Only breaker need change to 60A in future vs 50A. Should be only a few dollars more. Also all wire should be 4 wire.
