2019年4月12日 · The 338-06 is a great cartridge for hunting within 300 yards. I wouldn't consider it a long range option though. Using a heavy for caliber bullet and keeping it under 200 yards makes the 338-06 a fine choice for timber hunting. If you want to reach out with a 338 class cartridge, you're going to want more oomph though.

2020年6月4日 · I decided to shoot a wild cat round for my larger game hunting, my gunsmith suggested the .338-06 with a 180 Accubond bullet. Since there is no longer any factory ammunition available I was custom loading my own with good results. In reviewing Nozlers offering in big game and custom reloading...

2009年4月15日 · I too shoot a 338-06 and have taken it with me on 4 African hunts. I have never had the head stamp looked at but I have always had the correct cases in at least 1 full box of ammo just in case they do ask. I also brought along a reloading article showing how to use 30-06 cases for 338-06. Phoenix Phil is correct, they can look and might question.

2019年1月30日 · A light weight 338-06 (or 308, 7-08, 30-06, 280, 270, etc) would be about as good as it gets, IMO. Building a long range rifle is a waste of time IMO, for that off chance you need it. Fear of failure sells a lot of guns...

2021年10月10日 · The 338-06 is my go to PG cartridge for everything up to but not including eland. I spent a lot of time going through the different combinations of bullets and powders available for the 338-06. I found several bullets that shot well but IMO are not serious, tough big game bullets. Early on, powders like VV N550, IMR 4350, Rel 19 proved very good.

2023年3月1日 · My 338-06 is a CRF Win 70 with 10” twist Krieger barrel and standard chamber. My favorite hunting load is 225 gr Barnes TSX FB and Varget powder to right at 2500 muzzle vel. It is accurate and “efficiently” kills oryx, kudu, wildebeest out to about 275 yards as best I …

2023年12月21日 · I don't really know what it improves but 338-06 Ackley Improved sounds way cooler than 338-06 A-Square which is the standardized cartridge.;) Truthfully though, in 338-06 I think the performance difference between the standard and improved is negligible. @Deepfork I found the same with the...

2016年7月31日 · A-Square adopted the 338-06 and it is now a SAAMI standardized round. If memory serves correctly, Weatherby actually chambered some of their Mark Vs in it. A Savage donor would be a good foundation. Easy to work on. Since it is now a SAAMI round, reamers and headspace gages should be readily available.
.338-06 or .35 Whelen - AfricaHunting.com
2021年7月20日 · I’m having a serious conundrum going on. I have my project Savage 111, but I have been pricing aftermarket switch barrels. The .35 Whelen barrel, a 24 inch, 1 in 14 inch twist = $239 I found a .338-06 barrel, 24 inch, 1-10 inch twist = $206 I know, that both are pretty much equal when it comes...
