2011年1月16日 · The leftmost is actually a 6CB5, the predecessor which was built in a ST glass shape. The tube uses the common octal base and has the plate brought out to a cap on the top. Being indirectly heated with 6,3V/2,5A should make it straight forward to build a hum free amplifier without the need for a DC filament supply.

2012年3月16日 · The 6CB5 is a TV sweep tube (line output) from the first generation of color TV sets in the 1950's. I had a 1957 vintage Emerson color TV that was actually built by RCA. It used a 6CB5A. I remembered the number ad bought a bunch when this happened, they were $2 each.

2013年1月12日 · The earlier variant of the tube, the 6CB5 without the A-suffix, was made in a beautiful ST shape: Besides the different shape it also had a wider base. 6CB5 and 6CB5A are pin compatible, but if the socket is mounted below the chassis, the hole above the socket needs to be much wider for the ST shape.

The 6CB5'S are the first generation type st shape that I'm listening to right now and they just sound sonically correct to me a warm lush sound covering everything and nothing offensive but this is in Thomas Mayer's design it sounds great!

2013年2月12日 · The 6CB5A is a 1950s television sweep tube that wasn't designed specifically for audio, but the curve traces in triode mode are quite good. This cheap tube can also produce 6-8Ws in single-ended, which is pretty close to the mojo of a 300B.

2011年1月21日 · I plan on 90 mA idle current per 6CB5 so it is close...depends on g2 voltage on where the load crosses the g1=0V anode curve while the other is still conducting. In this one the EL84 is a signal tube, plate voltage of ~150V with g2 around 100 delivers a good idle point and load line with the 8k plate loads.

He touted it as a budget alternative to the 300B, and at ~$5 to $6 a pop on Ebay, it certainly would cut down on the output tube cost.

2018年5月26日 · The 6CB5A Beam Power tube has a screen. What is the screen voltage? The maximum rating for the screen is 220V. The maximum rating for the screen is 4 Watts. How is the screen connected in your circuit? Are you running 44mA per channel, or do the meter scales represent a single tube at a time? I would rather use 4 coupling caps than use 4 CFs.

6CB5a, as many TV power pentodes, is a great valve for a single ended amplifier. Specially now that popular valves of similar anode dissipation are getting really expensive. Thomas Mayer came up with a great design for this superb TV pentode that wired in triode mode is very linear and can sustain at least 25W of anode dissipation.

There the wish for a DIY design came up which should be fairly easy to built and offer excellent sound for the cost. Although I generally prefer DHTs, I searched for a indirectly heated tube which is rarely used in audio.
