At a time when AF power transistors were replacing valves but no VHF transistors were available the 6GM8 was designed to operate directly from vehicle battery supplies for car radio applications alongside transistors. This valve was used as the VHF input stage of car radios.

The 6Gm8/6N27P/ECC86 dual triode was designed to be used as an RF amplifier and as a self-oscillator mixer in a car radio, back when car radios held tubes. Unlike most triodes, it works quite well with only 12 volts on its plate.

The 6GM8 is a low voltage tube (30V max for the plate voltage), so in most cases, you CANNOT use it in place of tube in the 6DJ8/6922/7308 family. However, the Isabella's plate voltage is 24V and the 6GM8s share the same pin-out, and same 6.3V heaters / heater current draw - so I knew they should work.

2018年4月28日 · Using ECC86 triodes from Telefunken. It is a preamp with a little voltage gain. I hope getting good tube sound. There are 3 different ways to go. The first is simply using 1/2 ECC86 per each channel. This only requires one tube for stereo. The second way is to parallel triodes in one tube.

2003年7月13日 · I have two 6GM8 that I would like to put into use. Finding another similar one may prove to be difficult, so I would need to order quite a few to get matching tubes. I can order 12DL8 for cheap, and would like to do so.

Uses 4 transistors for the output. Is adjusted to give some THD with 2nd harmonic. Looking good. Did you try to build it? It does look like starvation voltage on that plate.
