2018年2月26日 · Substituting a 6V6 for a 6Y6 seems entirely practical and at the same time gets rid of a bunch of filament supply drain (1.25 A for a 6Y6 versus .45 A for a 6V6). It certainly won't hurt anything to try it. The 6V6 is capable of operating with much higher plate voltage than a 6Y6 also. The bias might be a little off, but probably within reason.

2020年2月18日 · trimmed back on 6Y6 g2 supply - was adding a fizz to high notes when full up. i can run the master full up with that annoying artifact. added some more filters to help stabilize & for RF management. still, though, when cranked up enough (usually beyond usable gain levels) it does have a propensity to become a 6W-ish AM detector. --pete

2008年12月2日 · Although they can be interchanged watch for voltage and current. Using a 6Y6, as example, filament and plate current will be much higher. Max voltage ratings are much less for this tube and a few of the others. If a 6Y6 screen has very high voltage it will glow red.

2021年5月11日 · I was able to hold my hand on it after a full hour of operation, but it seemed a little warmer than most sets in the collection. I was wondering if the 6Y6-G tubes in my set could be swapped out for 6U6-GT's. The characteristics seem close between the two types, but the 6U6 draws less filament current than the 6Y6.

2025年1月22日 · The 6Y6 in this "Cathode modulator" simply takes the place of that resistor to ground, as shown in "B" below. The modulator assembly gets its B+ from the cathode of the transmitters final output tube. As you can see in the original schematic, there is NO connection to any outside B+ power supply.

The only thing I noticed that didn't seem right was the 6Y6 control grid voltage; like the previous amp, it still isn't negative, but swings around from maybe 0V to 0.015V. The datasheet specifies -14V or so. Is this an issue? In the video, the cheapo red multimeter is monitoring the B+ and the orange meter is keeping track of the control grids.

A 6Y6 tube running in Ultralinear with 135 volts on plate & screen would probably only output a watt or two of audio. As soon as you try to play it loud, it will sound bad, defeating the whole idea. A 6Y6 in Pentode mode with 200 volts on plate (from junction of R1 & R2) and 135 on screen would give 6 watts.
