Any recommendations for good akadama? - Bonsai Nut
2021年2月23日 · A reliable brand of Akadama is the double red line in my experience over the past decade. There was a period of time when North America was receiving very low quality Akadama and it performed poorly. The percentage of Akadama should be adjusted for level of refinement, wether it is deciduous or conifer and just as importantly your climate!

2014年6月22日 · Akadama does break down, but it's not exactly the terrible thing that it's made out to be. As the roots colonize the pot they grow into the akadama and that extra moisture retention from the broken down akadama is a good thing. Plus akadama's ability for the roots to grow through means that more of the space in the pot is available for root growth.

Over the last 4 years (I know, a short bonsai career) I've used 3 brands of akadama, all to varying success. I've used Ryusen, Soukaku, and Ibaraki.

2018年6月11日 · When akadama breaks. down, it hold more water, due to the greater surface area. So, just when the tree starts to demand more water, the akadama is providing it. Of course, if it breaks down too quickly it can hold too much water! So, that why we cut it with pumice and lava. Note: trees you regularly repot every year do great in a pure akadama mix.

2021年3月19日 · Ok I cant be 100% sure because I dont grow fukien tea, but you will most likely want more akadama in the mix for your hot summers if you keep it outside. I guess the big question is if its inside or outside. Not sure how low your nights get (I live on the coast south of SF) But I have a good feeling it will be OK year round outside.
