History of Cave Lake State Park. The Cave Lake Reservoir was originally built in 1939 by the Isbell Construction Company. The purpose of the lake was to store water for use by the CCC Ranch located to the west in Steptoe Valley. In 1949, the ranch and the lake were bought by Joseph and Antone Laxague of Ely.

2023年3月27日 · Cave Lake State Park is a spectacular public recreational space nestled high in the desert mountains of eastern Nevada. Situated just 15 miles south of Ely, the park covers 4,000 spectacular acres. Its centerpiece is the glistening Cave Lake Reservoir, which was created in the 1930s to provide water for the nearby town.

Lake View Campground is open only in the lower loop. Hunting is allowed in the park outside 1000 feet of a standing occupied structure. Camp sites must be paid for and occupied. The use of drones or any remote controlled aircraft is not allowed. Visit B4UFLY for more info.

Cave Lake is one of two state parks near Ely, along US 50 in eastern Nevada, the other being Ward Charcoal Ovens. The lake is a reservoir, formed in 1932 after construction of a dam across Cave Creek, a relatively small drainage in the Schell Creek Range, a few miles east of town, surrounded by land of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
