What happens when a piece of copper is placed in 1M HCl?
2020年4月27日 · Ecell= E(Reduction of Cu to Cu $^-$) - E (chlorine half cell) Ecell= Undefined- (+1.36) = Undefined because Cu $^-$ does not exist in solution. In short nothing will happen to copper in HCl. P.S. Practically, HCl slowly dissolves copper in …
inorganic chemistry - Why doesn't copper react with hydrochloric …
2014年9月19日 · Although you should take a look at what Klaus said, copper does in fact react with hydrochloric acid, it just takes a week until all the copper is converted into copper chloride (green) and another week or so until it forms crystals and you can dissolve them in water to form copper chloride again (but depending on the amount of chloride it has, it'll be blue or green).

2015年9月8日 · The oxidation layer on the penny was gone almost immediatley after it entered the HCl solution. The zinc reacted quickly and by the next day the penny had been converted into a hollow copper shell. The shell sat in the remaining HCl solution (still 5.7M) over the weekend with no visible reaction but the solution slowly turned green and the ...
CuO reacts with HCl but Cu does not, why?Copper has a lower …
Copper does not react with H C l acid, but copper oxide does react. Copper has a higher reduction potential than hydrogen, hence it does not react with non-oxidising acids like H C l or dil. H 2 S O 4.
inorganic chemistry - Reaction of Cu in hydrochloric acid bath with ...
2015年9月28日 · Cu in air will form an oxide on the surface slowly. Water will speed it up some, HCl even more, and H2O2 (~30%) with HCl will oxidize very fast -- effectively dissolving the Cu and leaving CuCl2 dissolved in water. $\endgroup$ –
What will you observe when copper (Cu) is kept in hydrochloric …
Ca+HCl=CaCl+H2. View Solution. Q4. Potassium sulphite on reacting with hydrochloric acid released _____ gas.
Does copper react with HCl when current is present?
2017年5月26日 · If you doubt it, you could try (the dangerous experiment of) carefully heating the diluted HCl with a scraped-clean-of-oxide piece of Cu wire in it, and seeing if the copper starts to react. It will but it might not be an experiment you should do. HCl is volatile, and can vaporize. The problem with that is that it is also corrosive and toxic.

Why can't Cu + HCl -> CuCl2 - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2019年2月18日 · 1)How can I tell if a reaction like Zn + Hcl -> ZnCl2 + H2 can happen or not? 2)How can I tell if a reaction forms a precipitate and how do I know where the arrow goes? Like 2 AgNO3 + K2CrO4 -> Ag2CrO4 (precipitate) + 2 KNO3. I might come back with some new questions, but for now, thanks.
