Department of For-Hire Vehicles has launched the Online Business Portal to allow Operators, Companies and Associations access to submit License Applications, One Stop Vehicle Registrations, and Vehicle Case Management.

Licensing and Permitting Applications: For-Hire Licenses and Permits are processed by the Client Services Division during normal hours of operations. Taxicab and limousine owners can obtain or renew a DFHV license for their vehicles at all DC DMV service centers. To obtain or renew your license, you will need a completed application and the following documents: Copy of the letter from the DC Office of Tax and Revenue verifying you have registered for taxes.

To obtain taxicab tags in the District of Columbia, you must complete the following steps. Step 1 – Obtain the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) One Stop Form [PDF] Step 2 – Report to your insurance company to have your agent complete the appropriate section for insurance verification. Step 3 – Pass a “for hire” DC DMV vehicle inspection.
