Yes, FKR put a label to how we were trying to play as well and help us refine it. We’ve definitely found a higher chance of success works well for a campaign with FKR. There is a really useful feature of 2d6 that most people can’t do the probabilities in their heads, and I think a little bit of uncertainty helps people focus on the fiction.

2023年9月11日 · After reading many blogs, game systems, and playing games, I take FKR as doing what makes sense for the story rather than forcing game mechanics. This is sometimes seen as the "rule of cool" or "GM fiat". But I think if everyone trusts each other and knows they are playing for the run of the story, then it is ok.

In real life a very weak orc might still be able to wound Conan if Conan just happens to slip on blood and the orc has the shining sunrise behind them, even though Conan just killed twenty orcs previously without a scratch.

2023年10月12日 · The term "FKR" means "Free Kriegspiel Renaissance", by analogy to OSR. It was a term that gained popularity a few years ago (maybe as a result of the Blackmoor documentary). It basically means an RPG where the GM decides outcomes by fiat or intuition rather than by following detailed or authoritative rules.

My advice ti play OD&D, or any other early RPG before things get to bogged down in rules for everything. 2022年4月7日 · So I've been there when FKR exploded: game (and play) theory discussions happened, other games (as in non-rpg) mined for ideas - it was awesome to discuss ideas with like-minded folks. Many of us made minimalist games to support this mentality. This fervor in the movement slowed down now, but FKR as a whole is definitely still going.
