The I Corps Tactical Zone (Vietnamese: Vùng 1 Chiến thuật) was a corps of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), the army of the nation state of South Vietnam that existed from 1955 to 1975. It was one of four corps of the ARVN.

I Corps During The Vietnam War. Those who served in South Vietnam during the war were aware that the country was divided into four tactical zones or corps. These were often identified on maps and documents using Roman numerals. The northernmost area was designated as “I Corps” and was represented with the Roman numeral for one.

The Rockpile is located in Vietnam approximately 10 miles (16 km) from the southernmost boundary of the DMZ and 16 miles (26 km) west of Dong Ha. A Marine reconnaissance team described the cone shaped as a "toothpick-type mountain stuck out in the middle of an open area with a sheer cliff straight up and down". [1]
