For the book, she reversed the ritual — there’s no plot, tension, just a list of things in the bedroom of a little bunny then which you then start wishing goodnight.

Goodnight Moon is a poem, not a novella. My brother named his teddy bear, "Nobody," and would say, "Nobody loves me." That’s some straight up Ulysses style logic there (Referring to the story about him telling the cyclops his name is nobody before blinding him). Edit: added the blinding part in case ppl don’t know the story. It's both, actually.

Right before “Goodnight Mush” is one of the most startling and disconcerting moments in the story for many parents: “Goodnight nobody.” The theory goes thusly: mush becomes a metaphor for death because of its proximity to saying goodnight to nobody…no body.
