2018年2月6日 · The M14 was the standard infantry rifle for all Army and Marine units that deployed to Vietnam in 1965, but Defense Secretary Robert McNamara ended procurement in 1964, selecting the M16 as a replacement. By 1970, only a handful of M14s remained in Vietnam.

Along with the FN-FAL and the AK-47, the M14 is considered to be one of the finest military rifles ever issued. Adopted in 1957, The M14 has been used in every US conflict since Vietnam and after over 50 years, still remains the most highly coveted US issue rifle in American inventory.

M14 was replaced as a first-line weapon in the late 1960s but remained as a standard issue rifle for some more time with US troops stationed in Europe. It was also used by US Navy, for guard and line-throwing purposes. M14 rifle also served as a platform to build M21 Sniper rifles during the Vietnam war.
