2023年10月29日 · Ilan Pappé was born on 7 November 1954 in Haifa to a couple of German Jews who arrived in today’s Israel in the 1930s to escape the first Nazi persecutions; at 18 he did compulsory military service with the Israeli army and was employed in the Heights of Golan during the Yom Kippur War.

Ilan Pappé is an expatriate Israeli historian and socialist activist, educated at the University of Jerusalem and the University of Oxford. He founded the Academic Institute for Peace in Givat Haviva, Israel, and was its director from 1992 to 2000. He was also chair of the Emil Tuma Institute for Palestine Studies in Haifa.
