The coat of arms of Spain represents Spain and the Spanish nation, including its national sovereignty and the country's form of government, a constitutional monarchy. It appears on the flag of Spain and it is used by the Government of Spain , the Cortes Generales , the Constitutional Court , the Supreme Court , and other state institutions.

The two-headed imperial eagle that holds the coat of arms of Spain and the Burgundy cross stand out, inherited from the paternal grandfather and grandmother respectively. In addition, the quarters of Navarre and Naples were added in several designs.

Toledo, in previous periods the most important city of Spain, has a particularly elaborate coat of arms; it uses the double-headed eagle of the Holy Roman Empire as supporter on its coat of arms; this represents its former importance and power. Madrid, the capital, has a less elaborate coat of arms, depicting a bear taking fruit from a tree.

The current form is from 1981, when it was approved by Royal Decree by the Imperial Crown, or Royal Crown. The flag of Spain features the coat of arms. The main reference in the coat of arms is to the Catholic Monarchs and Charles V. Ferdinand II of Aragon.
