Thanos (/ ˈθænɒs /) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-artist Jim Starlin, the character first appeared in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (cover date February 1973).

Thanos, also known as the Mad Titan, is the main antagonist of the Infinity Saga and one of the overarching antagonists of the Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was a genocidal Titan warlord who sought out the Infinity Stones in order to wipe out half of all life in the universe to save it from overpopulation.
