Cowichan Tribes (Halkomelem: Quwʼutsun) is the band government of the Cowichan, a group of Coast Salish peoples who live in the Cowichan Valley region on Vancouver Island. With over 3,800 registered members, it is the single largest First Nations band in British Columbia. [2]

The Quw’utsun Cultural Centre is centrally located in Duncan, midway between Victoria and Nanaimo, on picturesque Vancouver Island. The centre is on 6 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds along the banks of the Cowichan River, a designated BC Heritage River, just off the Trans Canada Highway, minutes from the Duncan city centre.

The Quw’utsun’ Cultural and Conference Centre offers an authentic First Nations experience, including interpretive tours, traditional art work, salmon barbeques, displays and live demonstrations, and the Khowutzun Tzinquaw Dancers.

We recognize that Cowichan Station was established as a settler community that displaced and gravely disrupted the lives of the Quw’utsun’ people. We recognize that this is part of a colonial history that has caused great and ongoing harm to First Nation peoples in and beyond this place that we call home.

You might recognize the world famous, handknit Cowichan Sweaters – this is just one facet of the Quw’utsun peoples. Throughout history, the Quw’ustun Nation has modernized but still practices many traditions and ceremonies such as carving, singing, dancing and food preparation.
