WSJT-X and MAP65 are open-source programs designed for weak-signal digital communication by amateur radio. Normal usage requires a standard SSB transceiver and a personal computer with soundcard, or the equivalent. SDR-style hardware including the SDR-IQ, Perseus, SoftRock, and FUNcube Dongle is supported by MAP65.

Typical applications involve "DXing" at LF, MF, HF, and VHF+ frequencies, including meteor scatter and EME ("moonbounce"). Major emphasis is placed on weak-signal techniques.

WSJT-X implements communication protocols or "modes" called FST4, FST4W, FT4, FT8, JT4, JT9, JT65, Q65, MSK144, and WSPR, as well as one called Echo for detecting and measuring your own radio signals reflected from the Moon. These modes were designed for making reliable, confirmed QSOs under extreme weak-signal conditions.

Initially developed as an automation project, WSJT-Z now focuses on enhancing the functionality of the original software.

It is an enhanced edition of the excellent WSJT-X software by Joe Taylor K1JT, Steve Franke K9AN, Bill Somerville G4WJS, me and others (https://sourceforge.net/projects/wsjt/) that provides several additional features and improvements, as well as more frequent updates and bug fixes.

wsjt-x_improved is available with three different GUI layouts: WSJT-X's standard GUI, an alternative layout (AL) optimized for small screen sizes, and a widescreen version. The latter two provide a larger Band Activity window.

2024年9月30日 · Release Candidate 7 brings for both WSJT-X and wsjt-x_improved significant improvements for the new SuperFox mode. It introduces a new verification system which replaces the previous one, and works for both the SuperFox mode and for old-style Fox and Hound operation. All code for SuperFox operation is now open source.
