The name of this layer was also the name of the confederation of godly domains known as Asgard, home of the Norse pantheon, or Ysgard in the Norse tongue. Each realm was the size of a Prime plane empire and they were drawn together by the proximity of Yggdrasil the World Ash.

Ysgard or, more formally, the Heroic Domains of Ysgard, is the Outer Plane of chaotic neutral/chaotic good alignment. It is also called Gladsheim, the Land of the Brave, and the Hero's Triumph. The theme of Ysgard is the glory of heroic, individual struggle. According to myth, the twilight of the gods will begin on this plane.
